Cliffe Pools is an RSPB managed nature reserve set on the western side of the Isle of Grain and borders the River Thames. The wetland landscape covers 237 hectares and is made up of a mixture of fresh water pools, salt water lagoons and grassland with a network of trails ready to explore.
There is a large free car park, information boards and semi surfaced pathways but no toilets or refreshments although there is a vegan cafe located a mile away up the road at the Eternal Lake Nature Reserve. Dogs must be kept on lead and are not allowed in the pools.

There is no set route here at Cliffe Pools. We just made up our own route so if you just head out of the far side of the carpark you can then head along this pathway and choose if you want a short walk around Crystal Pool or a longer walk around Radar and Black Barn Pools. The map route above is the walk we did and was the shorter walk of around 3.5km on flat pathways.
Click the walk title in the top right of the above window to open the route on the AllTrails website or the mobile app. You can then create a free account which will then allow you to follow the route as you walk on your mobile. If you would rather not sign up to AllTrails free account and would like to use another mapping app (such as OS Maps, Outdooractive or Komoot etc) on your phone then you can download the GPX file below and import this into your desired app inorder to follow the trail.
Although this was a dogs on lead walk both us and the boys enjoyed this walk. We had the dogs on long lines so they could explore but not disturb the wildlife and it was so quiet and tranquil. A great place to have a wonder and look out across the Thames but the walk can be extended as the Saxon shore way passes through this location.
