Lambley Viaduct crosses the River South Tyne with eight stone arches and was formerly a railway bridge but now remains open to pedestrians. It was originally built for the Alston branch of the Newcastle and Carlisle railway which opened in 1852 and used to transport coal and lead into Haltwhistle station. To reach the viaduct the walk takes you through woodland and fields and is a very enjoyable walk.
Lambley Viaduct South Tyne Trail Car Park, Haltwhistle, UK
The circular walk we did takes you from the "Lambley Viaduct South Tyne Trail Car Park" through woodland to the top of the viaduct where you can admire the views and walk along the top. At the far end there is some steps that take you down the side of the viaduct into some more woodland where you can then cross back over the river on a narrow low level bridge. The dogs then had a great time playing and swimming in the water before heading back along the river and then back up to rejoin the footpath that then takes you back to the car park.
