Introduction
Samphire Hoe Country Park is a nature reserve owned by Eurotunnel and is located between Folkstone and Dover in Kent. The area was created by Eurotunnel during the construction of the Channel Tunnel where the excavated soil was used to reclaim land from the sea at the base of Shakespeare Cliff some 25 years ago.
The area now is home to a large nature reserve, surrounded by a wide sea wall and has a great dog friendly beach at the far end.
Managed by the White Cliffs Countryside Partnership the place is a great haven for both wildlife to thrive and people to enjoy. To maintain the balance between the two all that is asked is that visitors stay on the designated pathways, keep dogs on lead and scoop up the poop.

Walk Details
From the car park you can head straight into the nature reserve or down onto the sea wall. Either way you can create a lovely circular walk that is suitable for all abilities. Dogs are requested to be onlead in the reserve but the dog friendly beach accessed at the far end of the reserve is a great space for a run and a dip.

Walk Information
- Accessible - An easy walk with solid pathways suitable for all
- Our circular walk was around 3.5km see AllTrails map below
- Approx. an hour dependant on pace etc
- Rough surfaced pathways through the reserve and concrete pathway along the sea wall
- All accessible apart from access to the beach
- No Stiles
- Dogs onlead in the reserve and along the sea wall but the dog friendly beach makes up for it.
- Dog friendly beach all year round.
- Dog bins available with free poo bags so no excuses.
- Large pay and display car park. Payment by cash or RingGo App.
- Toilets available next to the cafe in the car park.
- Small cafe kiosk available in the car park

29 March 2026 at 18:37We love Samphire Hoe, such an unusual place and just beautiful. Definitely worth a visit. They also do guided walks every now and then, again worth going on.
