Tucked away in the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Cobham Wood covers around 190 acres of peaceful woodland and open grassland. It’s also a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), home to a wonderful mix of wildlife and native plants — perfect for exploring with your dog.
The wood features a blend of open meadows and mature trees, with plenty of shady paths ideal for a calm stroll or a longer walk. Highland cattle graze here at certain times of the year, so please keep dogs under close control, and use a lead if cattle are present.
At the highest point sits the striking Darnley Mausoleum, built in the 18th century by James Wyatt for the 3rd Earl of Darnley’s family. Though never consecrated — and never used for burials — it’s now beautifully restored by the National Trust and serves as the proud centrepiece of Cobham Wood, offering lovely views across the downs.
