The Blean Wild Art Trail sits within West Blean and Thornden Woods, which Kent Wildlife Trust has owned and managed as a nature reserve for almost 20 years. Over this period, the Trust has worked to restore the site to a naturally functioning woodland. They have introduced European Bison, Longhorn cattle, Exmoor Ponies and Iron Age pigs to revive natural processes and boost biodiversity. You will find the Bison in fenced areas of the woodland, with viewing platforms positioned along The Wilder Blean Walkabout Trail. Livestock roam other areas of the woodland, so please keep dogs under control, either on a lead or a long line.
You can explore three waymarked trails:
Heather Cottage, Thornden Wood Rd, Herne Bay, Kent CT6 7NZ
The Blean Wild Art Trail at West Blean and Thornden Woods caters for all abilities ranging from a 1 mile accessible all weather circular walk up to a long 10km walk covering the whole site.
We took the 3km Radfall Route which was fairly flat and easy going.
Click the walk title in the top right of the above window to open the route on the AllTrails website or the mobile app. You can then create a free account which will then allow you to follow the route as you walk on your mobile. If you would rather not sign up to AllTrails free account and would like to use another mapping app (such as OS Maps, Outdooractive or Komoot etc) on your phone then you can download the GPX file below and import this into your desired app inorder to follow the trail.
The Blean Wild Art Trail Radfall waymarked route was a lovely walk along all weather semi surfaced pathways. What we saw of the Wild Art was a bit run down or was missing so unless we were looking in the wrong place don't go on this walk expecting to see amazing wooden sculptures etc. The same can be said for the wildlife which is probably a good thing with our dogs as the most we saw were squirrels and birds.
Overall a great place for an all year round dog walk with a fairly large pay and display car park just dont expect (well at least for us) to see lots of Wild Art and roaming widlife.
