Introduction
The Boxley and Detling Circular Walk starts off a bit noisy from traffic but it does turn into a a rather tranquil and picturesque walk with your dog. This is a 5km circular walk that starts and finshes at the car park on Penenden Heath in Maidstone and takes you alongside a motorway up Detling Hill and into some rather picturesque scenery from the grape vines and the backdrop of the trees and is also surprisingly peaceful. If you dont fancy walking along a footpath adjacent to the motorway and a short walk up Detling Hill you can easily just do the walk in reverse and then head back the same way when your near to Detling Hill.
Easy access to two dog friendly pubs, The Kings Arms pub in Boxley or The Bull at Peneden heath for refreshments along with free parking and public toilets makes the Boxley and Detling Circular Walk one to explore for sure.

Walk Details
- Park in the car park to the rear of Penenden Heath and head down into the woods where the road makes a left turn by the tennis courts.
- Follow this path down and head into the motorway underpass
- Now when you come out of the tunnel you can head straight down and follow the route in reverse if you want an out and back walk to avoid the noise from the motorway and Detling Hill or as we did turn right and follow the footpath alongside the motorway up some steps and you will eventually come out at the bottom of Detling Hill.
- Follow the path up the side of the road until you reach Harple Lane and follow this road down and away from the busy Detling Hill.
- Thats the worst bit over! and the noise from the road disappears quicker than you would think.
- When you reach the house turn left and head down the public footpath towards the grape vines.
- When you reach the end of the grape vines you can either head straight on to the church and find the pub for a drink or continue by bearing left walking past a small orchard type field with some sheep.
- The footpath then heads through a kissing agte and into a fenced in footpath past some more sheep.
- Eventually this path open out onto a grassed field and you head up and over the high speed rail line bridge and into another large grassed field. Stick to the footpath and head out towards the the junction of Boxley Road and Sandy Lane.
- Head left out the field and follow you nose back up to the motorway underpass and back to the start.

OWTD Walk Verdict
A really nice walk just a bit of noise from the motorway and a short walk up Detling Hill at the start. If you dont fancy that then you could just do the route in reverse and make it an out and back walk. We will definately do this walk again as once your off Detling Hill you can't hear the traffic and found it to be a lovely peaceful walk with the option to visit a pub enroute!

- This circular walk is around 5.0km (3.1 Miles)
- Approx. 1.5 hours dependant on pace.
- Mixture of woodland, road and public footpaths with no major hills
- This walk is not accessible
- No Stiles just kissing gates
- We kept ours on lead until the pathway that leads you away from Detling Hill and were off lead through the vines. Sheep are or were in the fields when we visited so a dogs on lead section again but this didnt spoil our walk.
- Dog bins are available on Penenden Heath
- Free parking is available at the back of Penenden heath is a car park adjacent to the childrens play area
- Public toilets are available on Penenden Heath
- The Bull pub is located on the edge of Penenden Heath or you could divert off the walk and visit The Kings Arms in Boxley village.
