Introduction
Foots Cray Meadows is a nature reserve covering 97 hectares and consists of large open grassland meadows, woodland and a river. The River Cray is lovely and shallow down stream and is a great spot for dogs to have a splash on hot days.
The area was once the location of two manor houses Foots Cray Place to the west and North Cray Place to the East but all that is now left is the very attractive Five Arch Bridge which can be seen in the adjacent photo.
The site is now owned and managed by Bexley Council is a great place to explore. More information on the history of this area can be found at https://www.footscraymeadows.org
OWTD Verdict: Foots Cray Meadows is a lovely place to walk and explore and our boys especially loved the shallow river for a splash. This location is however in the London ULEZ zone so unless your car is ulez compliant the £12.50 daily charge applies. Â

Distance: Foots Cray Meadows has numerous footpaths available and easy to follow so distance can be as little or as far as you want. The route we took though was around 2.5km.
Time:Â Our route took us about an hour but with so much to explore this can be extended or shortned as you wish.
Terrain:Â Mixture of hard surfaced and unsurfaced pathways.
Accessible: Some of the pathways are hard surfaced and have gentle slopes for wheelchairs and buggies but may be bumpy. Â
Stiles:Â None.Â
Dogs on leads?:Â Dogs allowed off lead but should be kept onlead around the car park.
Dog Bins: Yes. Â
Parking: Free parking in the Foot Cray Meadows car park off Rectory Lane. We parked in Leafield Lane off the North Cray Road as this was closer for us but sadly this is still in the ULEZ zone.Â

The Walk Details ...
There are no way marked trails that we saw at Foots Cray meadows so just pick a path and follow it. We entered from Leafield Lane off the North Cray Road where there is parking in the road for quite a few cars. It’s easy enough to find your way around and we have marked on the above map where the shallow part of the river is located for a good splash.

It is a lovely walk ...
This is my local dog walk as we live nearby. It is a lovely walk but please keep dogs under control near the big lake bit the other side of the bridge as swans and ducks/ geese nest there and some dogs have disturbed them and there has been some young swan deaths x
